Faster than light I: Axiomatic foundations of special relativity, tachyons, and causal paradoxes

Room: 204
Speaker: André Großardt
This talk is supposed to be the first in a series, discussing the problem of faster-than-light signalling appearing in realistic quantum theories as a consequence of quantum non-locality. We review how the transformation law of special relativity, the Lorentz transformations, can be derived based upon simple starting hypotheses, without the a priori assumption of an invariant light speed. We further discuss the possibility of the so called tachyons, particles travelling faster than light, and the causal paradoxes that occur with them. Subsequently, we want to schedule the further talks planned in this series and finding people willing to present one of the respective topics.
